2018 WIAA Boys Division 1 State Championship at University Ridge Golf Course

The Verona boys golf team made it's first ever appearance at the WIAA Boys State Championship today..

Last week at it's home course of Edelweiss Country Cub the Wildcats won the Verona sectional with a score of 296 besting division 1 powerhouses Middleton and Waunakee by 10 and 17 strokes respectively.

However, todays appearance in the the state championship was not as welcoming.

The Wildcats, led by senior Garhett Kaegi shot a 6 over par 78, junior Austin Gaby also shot a 6 over par 78, and he was followed up by sophomore Cale Rufenacht with a 10 over par 82, senior Logan Lindell shot a 14 over par 86 and senior Connor Rufenacht finished up with a 22 over par 94.

The Wildcats finished the day with 326 and currently tied for 11th place along with River Falls and Janesville Parker.

Verona had 35 pars and 11 birdies.

Verona will start off day 2 on the 10th tee starting with Logan Lindell at 12:27, Connor Rufenecht at 12:36, Cale Rufenecht at 12:45, Austin Gaby at 12:54 and Garhett Kaegi at 1:03
